Presentation: Create Your Own Calmness

Calm

Most of us will have memories of situations when we wished that we could have been more calm and even remembering experiences from the past can stir feelings and emotions which we would rather not have.

This can sometimes effect current experiences or make us feel anxious about future situations.

When we restore calmness, we can interact with people in a much more effective and positive way and situations that may have at times seemed difficult are not as challenging.

Benefits of being calm include:

  • reduction in stress and creating the ability to relax
  • filtering out negativity
  • increased focus and clearer vision
  • develop a calm confidence
  • become more effective and increase productivity
  • communicate effectively
  • learn to let go

Using techniques from EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) you can be equipped with resources to create your own calmness whenever and wherever you need it.

This session will include demonstration and practical use of techniques to help restore calmness in times of anxiety, stress, anger and upset.

No previous experience of EFT or NLP is required as full explanations and demonstrations of techniques will be given.

The Shadow

Have you noticed that people can be very annoying?

They keep doing and sayings things that upset and disturb us.

The psychologist Carl Jung suggested that, in spite of all appearances, that which annoys us doesn’t reside the other person it resides in ourselves.

He suggested that the people that annoy us represent for us parts of our disowned self, our ‘Shadow’, the parts of ourselves that we dare not acknowledge or accept.

To protect ourselves we project those unwelcome aspects of ourselves onto others.

‘They’ are the ones who are rude, loud, critical, etc. If we notice those qualities in them we don’t have to pay attention to our own inclinations to be rude, loud, critical, etc.

Unfortunately being annoyed or upset is uncomfortable for us and there are so many people and so many opportunities for us to project and be distressed.

What would it be like if we could undo the triggers that cause the distress and allow us to accept more of ourselves?

In this EFT/Tapping presentation Andy Hunt will show you how you can use these annoyances to ease our distress and accept ourselves and others more easily.

IMPORTANT: You need to have some experience of Tapping/EFT to attend this presentation. If you are not familiar with it you might like to attend Heather Carter’s Tapping Into Resilience to learn the basics before attending this workshop.

How do you deal with life’s little irritations? Many of us try to turn a blind eye, maybe distract ourselves with food, tobacco, alcohol, television, technology or busyness, so that we no longer recognise when we are stressed; we believe we have to just carry on, get over it, try harder.

Maybe we get criticised – or criticise ourselves – for being too thin-skinned, over-sensitive, intolerant. Maybe we think we’re just tired and therefore tetchy and we’ll feel better about things tomorrow.

Anxiety is a very common state that most of us experience on a daily basis. It is fuelled by our increasingly busy lifestyles, the media, social media, peer pressures and more.

Anxiety presents with different symptoms to different people but all these symptoms have one thing in common – they feel unpleasant. Anxiety also stops one from experiencing life to the full and being present in life.

The good news is that with awareness of anxiety, we can do many things to decrease those unpleasant feelings that anxiety brings. In doing so, we can improve our quality of life and feel happier.

In this presentation, we will learn about what exactly is anxiety, why we have it, how to recognise it and the implications of it. We will also explore of some of the various methods that can be used to reduce anxiety and thus help us enjoy our lives more.

The presentation will involve some practical exercises so bring along some examples of what causes you to feel anxious.

Presentation: Compassionate EFT

This is a short and practical introduction to Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or Tapping): a very simple self help process with surprising power and show you how to use this technique to develop compassionate responses to the stress in your life.

EFT can be thought of as acupuncture for the emotions without using needles. By tapping on certain acupressure points on your face and body with your fingertips, you can significantly reduce the negative charge on memories, feelings and beliefs.

It is surprisingly easy to learn and I use and teach it to most of my clients.

Although EFT uses our body-mind’s natural abilities to quickly sooth negative emotional states, we can be easily be caught up in self-criticism and judgement of ourselves for having the problem in the first place.

When we tap with someone else for their difficulties we may feel very accepting and compassionate of their distress and have a strong wish to ease their pain.

However, when we tap for ourselves we might not feel so accepting or compassionate. We might think that it is wrong for us to have a problem, that it’s pathetic or unacceptable in some way.

Not only do we suffer the problem we can even feel badly towards ourselves for feeling bad.

Self-compassion is an attitude that can soften and soothe that kind of suffering. It has been shown to:

  • reduce self criticism
  • lower stress hormones such as cortisol
  • increase self-soothing, self-encouragement and other aspects of resilience
  • help heal shortages of caring from your childhood.

In this introduction to Compassionate EFT you will learn the basics of the EFT techniques and the principles of self-compassion and learn how to incorporate some of the principles of self-compassion into EFT so that we can soothe both the part of us that hurts and the parts of ourselves that struggle to be accepting of ourselves.

No previous experience of EFT is required.
