Presentation: How To Stop Shoulding On Yourself

Shoulds

Are you shoulding on yourself?

Are you telling yourself all day, every day, what you should be doing (and feeling bad about what you haven’t done?

Sometimes we have so many ‘shoulds’ it’s difficult to know what we want.

A should is a rule you ‘should’ live up to, a demand you ‘should’ meet, an expectation of how you ‘should’ behave.

  • I should lose weight
  • I should be more assertive
  • I should be more patient
  • I should …

Shoulds are often intended to be motivating, to help us do what we want or what is best for us. In theory our ‘shoulds’ should help us get things done.

But, you may have noticed that even though ‘shoulds’ are supposed to be motivating, what you should do often doesn’t get done!

In this ChangeCamp presentation Andy Hunt will explain three reasons why shoulds don’t work and demonstrate a simple EFT/’tapping’ method to help find and dissolve them.

A little bit of EFT/Tapping experience would be helpful but it’s not essential.

Mindfulness

It is important to us to be able to manage our own well-being.

It enables us to function effectively and be more resilient when we need to be.

Sometimes, through external pressures we omit to use techniques to look after ourselves and even the basics of being kind to oneself can be overlooked.

You may have noticed saying things to yourself when you are busy or under pressure that you would never say to someone else. Have you ever noticed the tone your internal voice has when
you are being critical to yourself? Why would you treat yourself differently to others? This is something that we will explore.

During this session techniques will be used from EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Mindfulness and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) through demonstration and practice to offer some alternative ways of managing self care and being kind to yourself.

No previous experience is necessary as full explanations and demonstration will be carried out.

Presentation: Lighten Your Mood This Winter With EFT

Winter DarkAre you sad?

Or what I really mean to say is: Are you a SAD sufferer?

Do you dread the shortening days, the darkening evenings, that sense of everything closing in on you as you wait for the light to come back? Do you have Seasonal Affective Disorder (whether diagnosed or not).

If so, I would like to invite you to step into the light-giving experience of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as Tapping.

This is a practical and interactive workshop for beginners and experienced EFTers alike and we’ll be focusing on how the change of season can adversely affect your emotional balance.

I won’t be telling you to pull yourself together or reminding you that it’s just the natural rhythm of nature and you either have to adjust or sit under a daylight bulb for eight hours a day (though if it helps, do it)! EFT sits happily alongside other modalities and isn’t intended to replace any necessary medical interventions.

This is a self-help, self-empowering tool that enables you to recognise and honour your deepest (often unconscious) feelings and doesn’t give them labels such as rational or irrational, helpful or unhelpful. With EFT, it’s enough to feel what you feel and give your undivided attention to how and where that sits in your body, what thoughts and patterns it triggers in your emotions and how much of a charge (discomfort) you have around those thoughts and feelings.

With EFT we don’t focus on fighting these perfectly legitimate feelings, rather we acknowledge them, work with them and allow them to teach us what it is we need to do to help ourselves. We use tapping on the body’s energy system – acupressure points – to soothe and even dissolve uncomfortable sensations and accept the reality of what is. With acceptance tends to come both relief and insight.

So come and learn these beautifully simple, practical techniques for self-soothing and self-healing without pressure and without judgement. SAD can be allied with depression, insomnia, weight loss, weight gain, low appetite, comfort eating, general anxiety or specific worries and once you have learned to use basic EFT tapping you can continue to focus the technique on your personal issues long after the workshop is over, keeping yourself positive, balanced and healthy throughout the winter and beyond.

Presentation: Create Your Own Calmness

Calm

Most of us will have memories of situations when we wished that we could have been more calm and even remembering experiences from the past can stir feelings and emotions which we would rather not have.

This can sometimes effect current experiences or make us feel anxious about future situations.

When we restore calmness, we can interact with people in a much more effective and positive way and situations that may have at times seemed difficult are not as challenging.

Benefits of being calm include:

  • reduction in stress and creating the ability to relax
  • filtering out negativity
  • increased focus and clearer vision
  • develop a calm confidence
  • become more effective and increase productivity
  • communicate effectively
  • learn to let go

Using techniques from EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) you can be equipped with resources to create your own calmness whenever and wherever you need it.

This session will include demonstration and practical use of techniques to help restore calmness in times of anxiety, stress, anger and upset.

No previous experience of EFT or NLP is required as full explanations and demonstrations of techniques will be given.

Presentation: Tapping Into Your Shadow

The Shadow

Have you noticed that people can be very annoying?

They keep doing and sayings things that upset and disturb us.

The psychologist Carl Jung suggested that, in spite of all appearances, that which annoys us doesn’t reside the other person it resides in ourselves.

He suggested that the people that annoy us represent for us parts of our disowned self, our ‘Shadow’, the parts of ourselves that we dare not acknowledge or accept.

To protect ourselves we project those unwelcome aspects of ourselves onto others.

‘They’ are the ones who are rude, loud, critical, etc. If we notice those qualities in them we don’t have to pay attention to our own inclinations to be rude, loud, critical, etc.

Unfortunately being annoyed or upset is uncomfortable for us and there are so many people and so many opportunities for us to project and be distressed.

What would it be like if we could undo the triggers that cause the distress and allow us to accept more of ourselves?

In this EFT/Tapping presentation Andy Hunt will show you how you can use these annoyances to ease our distress and accept ourselves and others more easily.

IMPORTANT: You need to have some experience of Tapping/EFT to attend this presentation. If you are not familiar with it you might like to attend Heather Carter’s Tapping Into Resilience to learn the basics before attending this workshop.
